Students Express Anxieties That Artificial Intelligence Is Undermining Their Study Skills, Research Shows

As per recent research, learners are expressing fears that using artificial intelligence is negatively impacting their capability to learn. Numerous report it makes schoolwork “overly simple”, while some claim it hinders their creativity and impedes them from learning fresh abilities.

Widespread Usage of Artificial Intelligence Among Learners

A report examining the use of artificial intelligence in British schools discovered that just 2% of students between the ages of 13 and 18 said they did not use artificial intelligence for their academic tasks, while four-fifths reported they regularly used it.

Unfavorable Effect on Skills

Regardless of artificial intelligence's widespread use, 62% of the learners said it has had a unfavorable effect on their competencies and development at their educational institution. One in four of the respondents concurred that AI “facilitates accessing solutions without independent work”.

The results correspond to research-based analyses on the use of artificial intelligence in academics. One analysis evaluated cognitive signals while written assignments among learners using large language models and determined: “These results raise concerns about the long-term educational implications of LLM reliance and underscore the need for deeper inquiry into AI’s role in learning.”

Nearly half of the two thousand respondents surveyed reported they were concerned their classmates were “surreptitiously utilizing AI” for studies without their teachers being able to identify it.

Request for Support and Constructive Components

Just 31% reported they didn’t think AI use had a adverse impact on any of their competencies. But, the majority of respondents said using AI aided them gain new skills, for instance 18% who reported it aided them grasp issues, and 15% who stated it aided them produce “new and better” ideas.
